Commercial and digital print company Deltor has reported a significant improvement in production after investing in a new MBO B30 folding machine and Palamides Delta 703 automatic delivery solution.

Purchased through Friedheim International – the UK distributor for both MBO and Palamides – the two machines have been in place at Deltor’s Saltash location in Cornwall for just over a month.

However, despite having only been operational for a relatively short period of time, Deltor has already seen major improvements in the way it operates. Managing director Sam Shannon says the biggest change has been with the staff who operate the machinery, explaining that the kit has helped reduce fatigue.

“We wanted to try and take some of the stress off our operators, as running an eight or 12-hour shift on a machine at high speed means that your operator gets tired.” Shannon said. “The machine will run and run, but the operator was getting more tired. When we were doing 2-up folding work, we were losing speed as the operator couldn’t keep up with the machine.

“Ultimately, the new kit gives us higher speed and higher quality, while also reducing the level of fatigue on operators. For us, this means our operators are fresher and happier to run the kit faster; we’ve got more speed as the operator has more time.”

Shannon also said that as machinery operators now have more time, they can spend longer looking at work to make sure it meets Deltor’s high standards, which in turn means that the end product will be of higher quality.

“The Palamides gives us time to make boxes and keep an eye on the quality,” he said. “If you’re running at high speeds and you don’t have a stacker of that quality, you’re not able to check the folds or keep an eye on all the quality aspects of the job.”

Deltor purchased the two new pieces of kit through Friedheim International, and Shannon was keen to pay tribute to the service both during the process of buying the machines, as well as ongoing support from the finishing specialist.

“We did look at other manufacturers, but for us, Friedheim have real strength in knowledge,” Shannon said. “They are also have knowledge of our business in terms of what we are trying to achieve and what products were the right fit for us.”
