Tecnau Libra SR is a fully automated solution for short-run book printing, producing pre-glued book blocks ready for efficient nearline binding. Designed to handle variable book thickness automatically, Libra SR allows each book block to contain a different number of signatures, enabling true on-demand, short-run book production.
With average book runs decreasing, Tecnau Libra SR helps print service providers reduce book inventories to zero, significantly cutting paper waste and eliminating the risk of unsold stock. This short-run solution opens new market opportunities, including manuals, limited editions, art books, academic research, republishing projects, financial reports, and emerging author titles.
Flexible, High-Speed Short-Run Book Printing
Operating inline or nearline with digital printers, Libra SR supports production speeds up to 130 m/min (430 ft/min) and processes rolls up to 520 mm (20.5”) wide. The system efficiently generates 12, 18, or 24-page signatures in 2-up, 3-up, or 4-up configurations. Each book block can be dynamically composed of varying signatures to produce custom-thickness books on demand.
Pre-glued and offset-stacked book blocks simplify handling and transport to the finishing stage, while glue can be disabled for sew-binding applications. One, two, or three vertical perforations per signature ease folding and book-block assembly.
Patented Waste-Reduction Technology
A unique, patented feature of Tecnau Libra SR minimizes waste by automatically adjusting the size of the last signatures. Depending on the total page count, the system shortens the final signatures to 8-page (2-up), 12-page (3-up), or 16-page (4-up) formats, reducing blank pages and maximizing material efficiency.
Intelligent System Control
Driven by a 2D Datamatrix code printed on every signature, Libra SR ensures precise tracking and product integrity throughout the process. A user-friendly touchscreen interface provides full system control, module setup, and real-time error and alarm notifications.
