Following a long period of not purchasing folding equipment J Thomson Colour Printers has installed two MBO machines – a K8/4 S-KTZ Perfection Combi and a T800.1/642 Perfection – both supplied by UK & Ireland agent, Friedheim International.
Says managing director Kevin Creechan: “Although we had added speed and capacity to our printing operation, we had not done the same with our finishing capabilities, and realised that we needed to correct this ‘imbalance’.
“Folding technology has progressed significantly since our last purchase, and therefore we took our time assessing what we required before making a decision. Once we had seen what was on offer it was apparent that the range of capabilities provided by the MBO folders was ideal for our business mix!”
Formed over 60 years ago and based in Glasgow, J Thomson Colour Printers remains a family business that has evolved from its origins as a provider of packaging to one that now offers a full range of printing services. The company has around 120 staff, offices throughout Scotland, and a nationwide customer base that consists predominantly of blue-chip companies in a variety of market sectors.
“We handle a lot of section work and chose the K8 RS in particular because with its speed of up to 275 m/min it can match the speed of our offset presses, thereby reducing the possibility of any ‘bottlenecks’ occurring,” Says Kevin Creechan.
“Also, by making such a significant investment with the two MBO folders we will be more competitive on larger projects, which up until now we have probably not been able to consider!”
As part of its investment in new finishing equipment, J Thomson Colour Printers also purchased a Palamides Alpha 700plus mobile stacking delivery system, again supplied by Friedheim International.
