The need to replace a good, but ageing ‘workhorse’ has led to the installation of a Baumann-Wohlenberg 115 high speed cutter at Point Control Print Finishing. Says managing director Richard Berwick: “We have been very satisfied with the performance of our existing Wohlenberg cutter, as well as the support we receive from Friedheim International (the UK & Ireland agent), and therefore we saw no reason to change what is a winning formula in terms of continuity in operation and performance.”
Point Control Print Finishing has been in business since 1996 and specialises in offering a range of PUR and perfect binding services, either working with customers who are new to the process, as well as existing customers who occasionally require help in finding innovative binding solutions. The company currently occupies premises in Accrington, Lancashire, and employs full-time staff, as well as part-time when demand dictates.
Print runs can be anything from one copy to an ‘ideal’ of around 2,000 copies, although the company will handle larger jobs (up to 20,000 copies). Says Richard Berwick: “Although we handle work from larger concerns, the majority is from small to medium printers located in this region. The reason why we like to handle smaller, quicker turnaround jobs is that we find that they are slightly more profitable than tackling larger production runs, and better suits our on-site equipment that includes, besides our two Wohlenberg cutters, three MBO folding machines and a Muller Martini perfect binding line.”
The new Baumann-Wohlenberg programmable high-speed cutter will continue to process the sheets required for folding, and book covers for the binder. In addition, it will also be cutting items such as Scratch Cards and magazine inserts that Point Control Print Finishing also handles.
