DRUPA 2016 was a complete success for KAMA GmbH, who presented efficient short-run finishing solutions under the slogan “speed-to-market”. The German machine manufacturer finished the industry trade fair with full order books, closing ten deals totalling 3.5 million euros, meaning that its innovative post-press solutions will be delivered to companies in Germany and around Europe, the Middle East and the USA.

First series sold out

According to KAMA, the first series of the new KAMA FF 52i, the world’s first folder-gluer for short runs, is already sold out.   “Our concept, to be one of the first manufacturers to present solutions for short runs, which is a mega trend in the industry, has been highly successful,” says KAMA CEO Marcus Tralau. “Our innovations, designed to bring greater efficiency to the finishing of small and mid-sized runs, including small runs for digital packaging printing, have been very well received in the market.  The three-year development phase for the FF 52i is now paying off.”

On its DRUPA stand KAMA presented the folder-gluer for the first time as a serial model and showed the changeover to the next run of straight-line boxes in an impressive 5 minutes thanks to its almost fully automatic set-up – a world record.  According to the needs of the customer the cutting-edge technology folder-gluer comes with different inspection systems for various criteria, right through to a full 100% inspection specifically relevant to the pharmaceuticals market.

World record times for changeover
“Together with the DC 76 ASB die-cutting and stamping machine, which due to its incorporated AutoRegister system, is able to finish digitally printed sheets with tenth-of-a-millimetre precision, we cover the entire post-printing folding carton production workflow,” says Marcus Tralau. “Fast changeovers – which thanks to the FF 52i are also now available for folding and gluing – are key to profitable short runs.  I know of no other comparable solution for finishing digitally printed folding cartons in the required quality.  Folding cartons, individual and with various designs, will soon be setting new standards in the packaging market.”

The complete “speed-to-market” workflow for folding carton production was shown with partner HP Indigo: printing was carried out on an HP Indigo 30000 along with the in-line Tresu i Coat 30000 varnishing module. Die-cutting, creasing, stripping and blanking was done on the KAMA DC 76 ASB and folding and gluing on the KAMA FF 52i, demonstrating how various straight line and lock bottom cartons could be produced within the space of only a few hours.

More output and efficiency
KAMA showed the ‘Generation S’ version of the tried and tested ProCut 76 Foil die-cutting and finishing machine. This machine features ultra-modern servo technology and new hot foil stamping systems with friction rewinder and 50% more output.  At 5,000 sheets per hour, the ProCut 76 Foil finished a capacity folder with hot foil stamping motifs, including a very finely structured motif with nano-embossing.  A servo-driven feeder, plus operator-friendly features such as a second, fully functional touch panel on the machine’s delivery side, make changeovers on the KAMA finishing die-cutters even easier and faster. That means more profitability and efficiency for the professional die-cutting and finishing of short and medium runs.
