When it comes to paper handling equipment, Baumann provides one of the most extensive ranges currently available!
The machines on offer provide users with the means of achieving greater production efficiencies and consequent cost savings, both in the preparation (P) stages before the cutting process, as well as finishing (F) after the cutting process.
In more detail, the range of Baumann paper handling equipment available includes the following:
Pile Hoists (P) and (F)
Baumann offers three types of pile hoist with platforms for preparation – BSH and BSH L – and finishing – BSH W – functions, along with a variety of models to cater for different load capacities. Paper piles are able to be lifted and lowered hydraulically on all versions, while other automated functions assist in reducing the physical strain on the pile hoist’s operator: this in turn helps to increase the efficiency of any high-speed guillotine or cutter. All versions feature a bevelled edge to the platform so that even large formats can be easily loaded, including from a pallet truck. The BSH L version also features powerful lateral sheet aeration, with variably adjustable blowing nozzles ensuring optimum aeration of the top sheet, while the BSH W version with its adjustable angle stop allows for the manual but precise re-stacking of multiple cuts, banded or packed products.
Loaders (P)
This machine – designated the BB and available in a variety of formats for different layer weights – enables the automatic de-stacking of layers and automatic transport towards the high-speed guillotine or cutter. Baumann loaders are capable of both rear table and front table feeding, and in most cases this dictates whether the machine is installed to the left or right-hand side of the guillotine or cutter. The loader is capable of handling paper (over 45 gsm), cardboard, foils and printing plates.
Jogging (P)
Baumann manufactures several types of jogger in many different versions to handle a variety of formats and pile heights. These include:
- STR – an easy to operate, compact and mobile standard sheet jogger ideal for the aligning and jogging of printed sheets. The Baumann STR is perfect for dealing with smaller tasks and can be used either left or right-handed.
- BSB and BSB L – these two Baumann models and their variations are fully automatic joggers whose robust construction and stability ensures that the table’s up and down movement is solidly guided. In addition, all model ‘L’ joggers are equipped with a pneumatically driven air expulsion roller with clamping device. An optional extra with this model is a ream stabiliser that prevents the curling of the sheets at the back guide of the jogger.
- BZW – in combination with the automatic joggers BSB and BSB L – allows simultaneous jogging and counting in one operation, thereby saving time and space. Counting prior to the cutting process ensures that a precise and pre-defined number of sheets are cut. The Baumann BZW features a seven-digit LCD multi-functional display and a alphanumeric keyboard with function keys. It has a dynamic memory management system that can hold up to 1000 jobs.
- BASA – the Baumann BASA, in its different formats, is believed to be the first system worldwide that is able to align a large variety of materials fully automatically! The BASA is equipped for two different modes of operation:
- During automatic operation, the machine processes the arriving pile without any operator assistance and provides the jogged and aligned layers in the desired height for further processing.
- For critical materials and smaller tasks the machine has been provided with a manual operating mode that works similar to a traditional jogger.
The Baumann BASA offers touch screen simplicity of operation, as well as both in-line and off-line solutions. The machine can handle all types of papers (over 60 gsm), various types of label papers, cardboard (up to 300 gsm), foils, certain types of plastics, and perforated and embossed paper and cardboard. BASA options include a carton inserter and a counting device.
Buffering/Transport (P) and (F)
This section encompasses a wide range of products, including the following:
- BLL – air board systems offer numerous buffer spaces for jogged layers, and they bridge the waiting times between jogging and cutting. Air boards, which are put between the layers by the operator (and taken out again when no longer required), separate the layers and are also used for transporting the layer. The Baumann BLL is regarded as a low-cost buffering system that is available either as an in-line or off-line solution.
- BMR – the Baumann MBR multi-layer rack runs fully automatically and is always operated as an ‘in-line solution’. Jogged layers are buffered within the multi-layer rack and, through the use of a gripper system, are transported towards the guillotine or cutter when required. The number of possible storage spaces on the BMR is only limited by the height of the building in which it is installed!
- Tables – these allow the transport of jogged or cut layers and in a ‘system’ approach comprise the following Baumann options: Air Tables; Air Table Corners; Pneumatically or Manually Tiltable Air Tables; Combinations of Mobile and Fixed Air Tables; and Packing Tables.
- Air Tables can be delivered in either rectangular or square form options for different formats. A low pressure blower supplies the required air, enabling even heavy materials to be transported with minimum effort.
- In contrast to the Air Tables, an Air Table Corner can be of any given form and is usually installed next to the left or right-hand side of the front table of the guillotine or cutter. It has the option of either being fixed or movable.
- A Tiltable Air Table is always part of a ‘normal’ air table and is installed when a passageway is required within a line of air tables. It can be tilted either pneumatically or manually, and is locked when in the horizontal position.
- The Combination of Mobile and Fixed Air Tables consists of one of each type that facilitates the transport of material either towards or from the front table of the guillotine or cutter. The mobile table also provides an additional work surface in front of the guillotine/cutter. It moves on rollers using a guiding rail.
- Baumann Packing Tables provide additional workspace where small format cuts can be packed together manually. They are not equipped with air.
All Baumann tables are available in a variety of surfaces:
• Wooden table with Formica® coating
• Steel table with stainless steel coating
• Aluminium table with hard coated surface
(without air valves/with holes for air penetration)
- BFS and BFS-R – these two Baumann models are gripper transport systems that are used to take the jogged layers out of the automatic jogger and then transport them towards the guillotine or cutter. Compact in design, the BFS can be equipped with one or two buffer spaces, while the BFS-R can be supplied with four buffer spaces for rear table feeding, and five buffer spaces for both front and rear table feeding.
- BTE – pushing systems are designed to take the layer out of the jogger, the gripper transport system or the loader and transport it to the guillotine or cutter. It can be equipped with either one or two buffer spaces, and its flexibility is such that it can be used for any format. The Baumann BTE is also adjustable to meet a company’s individual requirements.
- BSR – Baumann 4-fold racks are capable of sorting and buffering different products that come from the same collective sheet. Located next to the front table of the guillotine or cutter close to the operator, the BSR is always connected to, and works in conjunction with, the BA F multiple unloader (see below for details), which re-stacks the different products on up to four different pallets. For even greater production efficiency the Baumann BSR can also be supplied with automatic sorting via image recognition.
Unloading (F)
Baumann has a varied selection of equipment that caters for most formats and load capacities, including:
- BSP – storage board systems operate in a similar way to that of air board systems (see above), but are better suited to very small multiple-cut operations (labels, postcards, etc). Due to the very small format, transportation occurs without the need for an air cushion. During de-stacking, piles are prepared ready for transferring to the finishing process (packing, banding or shrink-wrapping).
- Baumann unloaders BA N and BA are designed to be the most ergonomic and economically effective way of re-stacking single and multiple cuts with high precision. Both types and their different versions (for a variety of formats) can be installed either to the left or right-hand side of the guillotine or cutter, and all feature a user-friendly operator panel with uncoded text display that offers the opportunity to influence all relevant parameters. The BA N is suited to piles of < 1100 mm, while the BA is capable of handling piles of < 1400 mm.
- BA F – for completely automating the re-stacking process the Baumann BA F multiple unloader is the model to choose! This machine enables the re-stacking of up to four piles onto up to four different pallets, and offers a great variety of possible combinations with different materials capable of being handled at the same time. The BA F’s versatility is such that, moving within its machine bed, it can pick up products from different places and re-stack them at one or several pallet places.
