Mark Bristow, Managing Director, Friedheim International takes over from Gerard Heanue as chairman of PICON for two years

On Friday 5th July, Friedheim International’s Managing Director Mark Bristow was appointed Chairman of the Print Industry Confederation (PICON). Picon’s Annual General Meeting was held at Blenheim Palace in Oxford, where the appointment took place and a speech was given to approximately 175 Picon members at the evening function to mark the occasion. Gerard Heanue who is the incumbent chairman nominated Mark for the position who will hold it for two years whilst maintaining his position at Friedheim.

Picon is the leading industry trade association representing manufacturers and suppliers to the Printing, Papermaking and Paper Converting sectors. They provide support and business advice to their wide range of members, from small SMEs to large multi-nationals. Also under their new guidance is the British Paper Machinery Suppliers Association; The BPMSA is a division of Picon representing a group of like-minded paper and board manufacturers.

Mark Joined “Oscar Friedheim” in 1987. Working in the industry for 32 years, Mark has a degree in English from Nottingham University and is ACA qualified. He also led the MBO with the late Pete Morris in 2005 - and has since led Friedheim to a position of strength in the print finishing, packaging and converting sectors.

Mark’s job will be to help lead the confederation, and the industry, into a strong sustainable future; decades of experience earned with Friedheim International and his expertise in the world of finance will play a large role in achieving that success with the confederation, and for the print industry as a whole. From the Headquarters in Hitchin, Hertfordshire – Under Mark’s leadership, Picon will work to further lobby against adverse legislation, protect the integrity of the industry, and make it simpler to operate within.

The organisation’s finance committee will now be chaired by Heanue, replacing Andrew Hamilton. George Clarke, another former Heidelberg MD, has been appointed as company secretary and financial controller

Mark says, “I have three key aims during the next two years in my role as chairman: The priority at the moment is to maintain and develop the training initiatives and grant systems we have already introduced for members. I’m going to develop the business support opportunities we offer to members, and encouraging greater engagement between industry organisations, the government and marketing professionals to influence the driving factors of print.” He encourages members to engage in grant benefits and not to underestimate the relationships and support that can be provided.

Mark will continue in his full time Managing Director role at Friedheim International; keeping a pulse on the economy, the driving factors of print, the health of the industry and the supply chain as a whole.
