TPC keeps it in-house with a new Komfi Delta 52

Berkhamsted based commercial printer The Print Centre have brought lamination in-house by purchasing and installing a new Komfi Delta 52 industrial thermal laminator from Friedheim International.

The New Komfi Delta 52 replaces a small, manual laminator for a more robust service offering

The laminator, which was purchased for just under £35,000 was installed at the end of August after the 18-staffed company undertook a raft of demonstrations with various finishing suppliers. Ben Nixon, Managing Director of The Print Centre considered the companies options with various alternatives from Vivid and Foliant, but in the end found that the Komfi Delta 52 from Friedheim International ticked the most boxes, in regard to price and specification and the quality of the finished product. He said, “With our previous laminator being quite labour intensive, we wanted something which would reduce our turnaround times, especially for the urgent litho and digital jobs we have. This laminator is more of an industrial work horse, with some nice features which will add a lot of value not only to our print but let our staff get on with other jobs.”

The Print Centre have been delivering quality printing services to companies and organisations for over 40 years. Over this time The Print Centre (Originally J & M Nixon Printers Ltd) has gradually grown, making several business acquisitions along the way. These companies include Partridge and Legg of Gerrards Cross, Peacock Printers of Berkhamsted and more recently Mason Printers of Amersham. With a strong client base of Print Management companies and some major Blue Chip companies, The Print Centre even has a satellite office in Pinewood Studios.

The Komfi joins The Print Centres’ 600sqm production unit in it’s finishing room which includes; a Duplo 600i high volume booklet maker, a Polar guillotines, and a Heidelberg cylinder B2 die-cutter and creaser. The Komfi replaces a small desktop unit that will be sold onwards. Their digital room consists of Konica Minolta 1085 Press and Konica Minolta Biz Hub 6000L Pro. Their litho room includes their 5-colour B2 Heidelberg SM 74 CP 2000 along with B3 Heidelberg GTO52.

“We have a lot of production capacity so we do most of the work is kept in-house now. It allows us to keep track, control costs and timings – the Komfi allows us to do that better than the last laminator we had.” Ben Nixon went on to say, “We’ve been putting the Komfi through it’s paces and testing to see what we can get out of it. We’ve run some fairly large jobs through it and so far it’s been pretty great. Friedheim’s aftercare was on point and we’ve found them to be great to deal with. The training went well and we’ve started production.”

Simon Cox, Friedheim’s Sales Specialist says, “The Komfi Delta 52 is rated as a non-stop industrial laminator, it’s a real work horse and will fit right into the ethos of The Print Centre. One of the things that they needed was an automatic sheet separator which their previous machine didn’t have, they found it in the Komfi; along with a wide range of sheet thickness ranging from 115-600gsm, processor controlled automatic sheet feeding, outstanding temperature control and stability and with built-in self-diagnostics system.”
