Friedheim expands portfolio with ground breaking machine

Author: SuperUser Account/Friday, April 13, 2018/Categories: Corporate News

Friedheim International is pleased to announce that it is enlarging its equipment portfolio with the addition of a new supplier – Shawpak – that offers a compact and cost-effective solution for thermoforming packaging.

Shawpak was founded just 18 months ago by parent company Riverside Medical in a bid to design a world class thermoforming machine. With it’s expertise in designing and manufacturing medical equipment for the UK pharmaceutical industry, Riverside Medical designed the Shawpak under strict pharmaceutical conditions.

Shawpak is based in a purpose built 1200sqm engineering facility in Derby to ensure production space and capacity. With the successes in the pharmaceutical markets over the last 12 months Shawpak were looking for a partner with a large technical workforce and strong presence in other industries so they can expand into those markets.

The NEW Shawpak Thermo former has the smallest footprint per packs per minute in the industry

Martin Howells, Friedheim International’s Packaging Manager met the team at the PPMA Show 2017, “After seeing the Shawpak machine in action, it was obvious that it really was a ground breaking machine. The unique rotary drum application, ease of use and quality of the pack where unmistakable. Also the versatility of the machine is unmatched for it’s size and price.”

The Shawpak produces thermoformed packs through a comprehensive control system, combined with superb mechanics, this gives the Shawpak the ability to produce packs under the strictest control and to the most demanding specifications. It has the capacity to process a large number of materials with an output speed of Packs per minute for flexible packs. What really sets the Shawpak apart is the compact size. It’s minimal footprint and low starting cost make it ideal for any emerging contract packer or those with a highly varied product base.

The heart of the machine is a servo driven indexing drum which transports the webs through the machine. The drum is surrounded by forming, sealing and cutting stations. The product is simply loaded in to the top of the tooling drum and ejected out of the base onto a discharge conveyor. It is that simple!

Shawpak have set up shop in a custom built 1200sqm warehouse and laboratory structure

Tony Croft, Sales and Marketing Director from Shawpak says “we are delighted to work with a well-established partner in Friedheim. This gives us the market exposure and technical support to move in to the consumer goods/ Non-food arena with our revolutionary thermoform equipment”

Says Mark Bristow, Managing Director of Friedheim International: “The addition of Shawpak’s thermoformer to our Packaging division is a clear indication of how seriously Friedheim views innovation and itself in the packaging industry.

“The Shawpak is an excellent machine with a diverse product range through it’s versatility and superior design.  It’s a great value add, but also a great entry machine for those currently farming out their product packaging.”

Responsible for overseeing the smooth integration of the Shawpak into the Friedheim portfolio is Martin Howells, who has more than 20 years experience of working with global suppliers of packaging machines and systems into many industries with diverse products and applications.
