The Komfi Amiga 52 with OTF module has led to an almost 50% reduction in Inprint's outsourcing
Classed as one the Souths leading printers Inprint Litho, also known as Better Printing, has purchased the UK’s first Komfi Amiga 52 thermal laminator with Over Toner Foiling (OTF) unit from Friedheim International. The laminator was on show during IPEX and showed off the quality of the foiling for all visitors and was a major attraction for us. However, after the show it was installed in their 1580 sqm factory in Southampton.
Purchased for £35,000 the Komfi Amiga 52 OTF joins a previously bought MBO K76 in 2006 along with other finishing equipment. The 35-staffed commercial printer also has 2 five colour Sakurai B2 presses, Konica Minolta and Xerox digital presses along with Agfa, Canon and Roland Wide/Large format printers. Better Printing also has a direct mail section with Pitney Bowes and Bell & Howell envelope inserters.
Purchased to bring their laminating work in-house the Komfi Amiga 52 is an industrial B2 laminator capable of laminating and foiling sheets between 115-600gsm. The OTF module allows the laminator to apply film to printed toner on the sheet from their digital printer, which was extensively tested before purchasing. With the OTF module they can apply special effects depending on a wide range of foils that are readily available on the market.
Damien Sweeney, Inprint Litho’s Managing Director says, “We’ve started seeing a lot more of this type for work in recent months which meant having to outsource more laminating and foiling work so the purchase of the Komfi was to bring all of that outsourcing work in-house. Due to the nature of the Komfi we only need to send out much larger volumes of lamination work. It’s reduced our outsourcing by 50%. Better Printing is one of our most prominent online shops and the Komfi has made the entire process faster and in-turn allows to do more on-time deliveries.”
With a target of £5m turnover in the next two years Inprint are looking to expand into their fourth unit at the industrial estate in Southampton. Sweeney added “We do a lot of regular campaign work for our customers and we collate all the Digital, Litho and large format for these and then pack them for distribution. With the Komfi, it adds laminating and foiling to our portfolio of services in an easy to use, simple unit with a very small footprint.”
Tom Baker, Post-Press Sales Specialist, Friedheim International says “The Komfi is a reliable, robust and user friendly machine which is proving itself to be best in class. After a successful demonstration the decision to invest in a machine with foiling didn’t take long for Betterprinting - they received a stock machine onsite a few days after IPEX,” he added “we’ve received a lot of interest in Komfi’s OTF machines over the last few months, it looks like embellishment and special effects are going to be key in the decision-making process in 2018. ”
