Printwize installs a new BaumannWohlenberg 115 guillotine, replacing a 10 year old Wohlenberg for added peace of mind
The Essex based printer replaced their 10-year-old Wohlenberg guillotine with a brand new 115 BaumannWohlenberg from Friedheim International to allow the company to enhance their cutting for more complex and demanding jobs. Purchased for approximately £40,000 the new guillotine with it’s 19” touch screen and CIP data module offers menu guided programming and covers a variety of cutting jobs, e.g. single cut, program cut, repeat cut, clamping without cut, and automatic actual-value transfer to name but a few. The 115 guillotine also has quick knife-exchange and a low-maintenance electromagnetic clutch as well as an electronic hand wheel for the back-gauge positioning.
Roger Wacey, Chairman at Printwize says “We’ve purchased finishing equipment from Friedheim before, in 2008 we bought handling as well as the guillotine we’ve just replaced and we’ve been very happy with the entire system. As a company we prefer having two of everything throughout our range of equipment, having a single guillotine can be a little tricky, since if that goes down or needs maintenance we don’t have any contingency – reliability in our guillotine is of utmost importance to us. With the new features of the Baumann, both the reliability of the machine as well as the help we get from Friedheim is very reassuring. These new features also mean we can do more complex and intricate work for our customers and their campaigns – it gives us the assurance of being able to fulfil all our cutting work. It wasn’t the cheapest of the ones we looked at, but the extra features are more than worth it.”
The Baumann was installed at the beginning of November 2017 and was integrated into the company’s workflow. With a workforce of 28, Printwize’s operates a comprehensive in-house bindery to complement its printing capabilities. Their processes include cutting, foiling, die-cutting, saddle stitching, collating and thermal laminating that is all done in-house in their 1,200 sqm premises.
Stuart Bamford, National Post-Press Sales Manager for Friedheim says, “The Baumann is the perfect guillotine for Printwize as it has been installed in combination with their Baumann BSB 3L jogger and pile hoist purchased in 2009 and will work seamlessly within their workflow. With its intuitive controls and programming along with German build quality the BaumannWohlenberg 115 does everything that a printer would ever need a guillotine to do, with Friedheim support at a very affordable price.”
With a turnover of over £2.7M, Printwize runs Mitsubishi Diamond B1 presses with inline coating units which they are looking to replace later this year with one to be converted to UV. They also run a Konica Minolta Digital Production press, perfectly suited for quick turn-around work, for leaflets or multi-page booklets using a wide range of substrates from PVC and plastic, to die cut boxes and labels.
